President: Malcolm McIllmurray

Malcolm is a cancer doctor, who has worked in Morecambe Bay for most of his professional career. He has been the Medical Director of St. John's Hospice, and is the founder and chairman of a support organisation 'CancerCare'.

He is not an actor or singer, but he plays the piano and organ, and has a great love of music, especially grand opera. He has been a long time supporter of L.A.D.O.S. ever since his eldest son, Daniel first graced the amateur stage many years ago.

Secretary: Audrey Tarney

Audrey has been a member of L.A.D.O.S. since 1970, (she reckons she was aged 5 when she joined!), and has taken part in almost every show since then. She had a "sabbatical" in 1987 when she staged her very own "production"... daughter Nicola.  Audrey got her wish last year when the Society staged her favourite show, "Fiddler on the Roof". She has been a Committee member for several years, and was the Membership Secretary for many of them, before taking over as Secretary, from Margaret Hartley in 2004. She is now busy sorting out details for the 2008 production of Singin' in the Rain and  is taking another sabbatical - a tough decision as there is a great production number towards the end of the show which was very tempting.

Treasurer: Frank Dewhurst

Frank joined L.A.D.O.S. in 1977, taking over from his wife, Jean when she took time out to have their youngest son. He has played many cameo roles, usually involving such props. as ladders and fishing rods! He became Treasurer after taking early retirement from working at Heysham Power Station, and has carefully looked after our finances ever since. With his canny, no nonsense approach, he makes sure we don't get too carried away with our spending! Part of his duties involve ticket booking, and liaison between the Society and the theatre box office which is an involved, and time consuming task.

Chairman: Alan Hargreaves

Alan was re-elected in 2005, having previously served as a committee member for several years. He is a retired teacher, who has played many leading roles for both L.A.D.O.S. and several of the other local societies. His most recent role for L.A.D.O.S. was that of the Rabbi in our 2007 production of "Fiddler on the Roof". Alan gave a most memorable performance as Fagin in our 1992 production of "Oliver".

Vice Chairman: Sylvia Rogerson

Sylvia has been with the Society since 1968 when she was a mere slip of a girl. She has been involved with many aspects of the amateur theatre both on stage and off. For several years she ran the Society's publicity campaigns, drawing on her experience as the former Ceremonies Officer at Lancaster University. Sylvia has played many roles for L.A.D.O.S., but perhaps her most challenging role to date, was that of a nun in "The Sound of Music" in 1970, whilst pregnant with son Robert, who is also now a member of L.A.D.O.S.! Sylvia is also a member of Lancaster City Council, and spends several weeks each year at her 'retreat' in Spain to recharge her batteries.

Committee Member: Hazel Beckett

Hazel joined L.A.D.O.S. for the 1978 production of "The Merry Widow" having been talked into becoming part of the props. team. Twenty five years later, she decided that always wearing black, and dashing on and off stage almost as much as the cast, was no longer for her, so she handed over the props. reins to stepdaughter, Dawn, and retired to the prompt corner to make sure that the cast kept to the script - well, that's the theory anyway! She is also on the publicity committee together with husband Cliff, who usually takes the publicity photographs, and she is grateful for the age of the digital camera, so that their front bedroom is no longer blacked out and taken over as a darkroom for several weeks, whilst the publicity photos are being developed and printed!

Committee Member: June Derham

June once attended a night school class in dressmaking, little realising where it would lead! One of her fellow pupils was helping out in the L.A.D.O.S. wardrobe department, and talked June into joining her. That was back in 1977 for "No, No Nannette", and she's been with us ever since, although she made the transfer to the props team in 1978 for "The Merry Widow", where her artistic talents were put to good use - no one can re-upholster a sofa, or paint chairs quite like June! After many years of working backstage, June decided to join the Front of House Team, where she recently deputised for the Front of House manager and former president, David Brierley, whilst he was performing his presidential duties. She was elected to the committee in 2004.

Committee Member: Jenny Griffiths

Elected to the committee in 2005, Jenny has been with the society for 9 years, and played the part of Svetlana in the 2004 production of "Chess" and Tzeitel in "Fiddler on the Roof".  She loves singing and dancing, especially salsa dancing, which she has been teaching for some time now. Professionally she is an occupational therapist, specialising in the care of elderly patients, and her prime aim is to keep them out of hospital or residential care and in their own homes for as long as possible. She has also taken on the role of Membership Secretary, and has the unenviable task of collecting in the subscriptions from everyone.

Committee Member: Joanne Metcalfe

Jo joined the Society in 1989 for "Hello Dolly" and has been involved with every production since then. Even whilst she was expecting her little boy, Henry and couldn't go on stage, she worked behind the scenes as part of the props. team. Jo works very hard in contacting other organisations to arrange party bookings, which is not an easy task! As a former buyer for a national mail order wine company, Jo's considerable talents, and contacts, are put to good use in organising the liquid refreshment for the after show party!

In 2007, we discovered that Jo has a fantastic pair of lungs...as her performance as Fruma Sarah in the 'dream sequence' in  Fiddler on the Roof proved!

Committee Member: Jane Silvester

Jane first joined LADOS in 1986 when she played the part of Ann Pornick in "Half a Sixpence", and she has been involved with the society on and off since then, whenever her busy schedule allows. She has taken roles in many of our productions, including "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", "Grease", & "Chess".

Apart from being our latest recruit to the general committee, Jane has served on the publicity committee for the past two years, where her marketing experience has been invaluable.

Committee Member: Bryan Wood

Bryan is fairly recent recruit to the general committee, and his wealth of knowledge of the local amateur scene, plus his media contacts, are invaluable assets to the society. He has been a member of L.A.D.O.S. for several years now, but has been involved with the amateur stage in Settle and Blackpool, amongst others, for much longer. Bryan has played some memorable roles for us, such as Caiaphas in "Jesus Christ Superstar" in the Lancaster Priory, Molokov in "Chess", Moonface Martin in "Anything Goes", and who could forget his hilarious performance of Pooh-Bah (complete with Yorkshire accent!) in  "Hot Mikado".  He brought his own inimitable sense of humour to the role of Tevye in our 2007 production of "Fiddler on the Roof"   By day, Bryan is an interior designer.
